• This matte black ink cartridge is one of two matt black cartridges used in these wide-format printers. The printer uses two matte black in cartridges in order to ensure both speed and maximum density. The decision by the printer to automatically choose which black to use, (whether that be the pigment ink from the two matte black ink cartridges or dye ink from the standard black cartridge) is determined by the media type that is chosen by the operator. The operator simply selects the preferred paper type, and the printer then automatically switches on the correct black cartridge (Matte Black Pigment or Black Dye) to maximise the print quality for that media type. If the operator chooses plain or matte media types to print on, then the printer would lock in this matte black ink cartridge for use. If coated or glossy paper was chosen instead, the dye-based standard black would then be automatically selected by the printer.

• Media remains resistant to scratches and abrasions and therefore highly durable to handling and processing.
• Thermal inkjet is the technology behind how the actual ink gets applied to the page. It does this by heating up ink that sits inside very fine print head nozzles. The heat makes the ink expand and produces a droplet which is then applied to the paper or media. As the ink is applied directly to the page from thousands of microscopic nozzles, the resolution is markedly superior to laser and dot matrix type printing technologies, making inkjet the preferred option when quality is demanded.
