Art Markers

The solvent that lets these blend into one another is the same thing that carries the ink through a normal sheet onto whatever is beneath. Marker paper is coated to hold the ink on the surface, which is why it exists. Nib shape then sets the mark, and refillable barrels with replaceable nibs change the economics over a set.
