The paper decides the result more often than the paint does. Light cartridge stock buckles and cockles the moment it is wet, so watercolour work wants heavy paper made for it. Pans then suit sketching and classroom use because they travel dry and rewet on demand, while tubes mix stronger washes and suit larger areas. Student grade carries less pigment than artist grade.
