Thermal Labels

The two look alike and behave differently. Direct thermal labels darken under the printhead with no ribbon at all, which is cheap and simple and fades under sunlight, heat or friction over months. Thermal transfer uses a ribbon to lay pigment down and survives years, cold storage and outdoor use. The printer determines which you can run. See label rolls, printer ribbons and label supplies.
