For multiplication, the two bottom numbers are multiplied together and the result, or product, is found at the top of the triangle. For example, 1 x 2 = 2, and 2 x 1 = 2.

For division, the process begins with the number at the top. Students then divide it by one of the numbers at the bottom, cover the selected number, and the answer will be the remaining bottom number. For example, 2 ÷ 1 = 2, and 2 ÷ 2 = 1.
