• The processing technology used to form an image with this type of printer cartridge is known as electrostatic reprography. A photoconductor is utilised which is a cylindrical drum with a light-sensitive coating, and this component is essentially the heart of the print development system. This particular surface coating changes its electrical property values when light shines upon it. Initially, the drum is charged all over by a charge corona assembly with static electricity charges in the form of electrons. A laser then shines upon the non-visible areas of the figure to effectively neutralise these areas determined by the processing unit. This leaves the photoconductor complete with a highly charged surface in the shape of the text or illustration sent to it from the PC. The toner cartridge with is developer roller then become mechanically engaged with the drum so that the drum can attract oppositely charged toner particles across to fill the spots where the charges currently exist. A sheet of paper is then moved from the paper tray and transported in line with the drum. Below the paper, another corona charge roller is then switched on to reverse the polarity draw all of the toner particles from the drum and onto the waiting page. The printed sheet then moves to a set of hot pressure rollers called a fuser section where the toner particles and polymers are melted and pressed into the fibres of the paper for permanent adhesion. The printed page then exits onto a printer catch tray ready for handling and further office processing.
• Thanks to the unique blend formula and shape microscopic toner particles and properties of the special polymers developed by Canon research engineers, operators can achieve print resolutions of up to 9600 x 600 DPI (Dots Per Inch). The other benefit to these printers with this capacity is the advanced printer settings section. In the configuration panel on the printer, operators can make changes to print density to change the quality of the print levels. For the highest quality for the most important tasks, toner concentration levels can be dialled up and combined with special media to produce the densest visual output. On the flip-side for less quality intensive jobs like internal memos and other trivial print tasks, settings can be lowered to a setting known as DRAFT or TONER SAVE mode. In these modes, a lot less toner is consumed and this substantially increases the longevity of the cartridge.
