Seconds Save Lives – Be Prepared, Be a Heart Saver
In a cardiac emergency, time is everything. Every second that passes without proper intervention significantly reduces the chances of survival. That’s why our "Seconds Save Lives" campaign is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of having an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) readily available in workplaces and public spaces. This initiative aims to empower you to act quickly when it matters most, giving people the best chance at survival.
As part of the campaign, every AED order will come with a red felt heart attached to a card featuring a QR code. This heart symbolises the seconds that can save a life. The QR code links to valuable resources to help you understand AED usage, heart health, and life-saving techniques. Read on to explore these crucial resources.
Quick AED Usage Guide: Be Ready to Act
Using an AED (Automated external defibrillator) can be the difference between life and death. Here’s a simple guide on how to use it effectively:
- Turn on the AED: Open the AED and turn it on. The device will give voice prompts to guide you.
- Attach Pads: Expose the person’s chest. Place the AED pads on the person’s bare chest according to the diagram (one on the upper right, one on the lower left of the chest).
- Let the AED Analyse: The AED will automatically analyse the heart rhythm. Make sure no one is touching the person during this time.
- Shock (if advised): If the AED advises a shock, make sure everyone is clear of the person, and press the shock button.
- Continue CPR: After the shock, or if no shock is advised, resume CPR immediately until emergency responders arrive or the person begins to show signs of life.
Remember: AEDs are designed to be used by anyone, regardless of training. The device guides you through the process, so don’t hesitate—every second counts!
Heart Health Tips: Protect What Matters
Heart health is more than just responding to emergencies. Taking steps to care for your heart today can prevent future problems. Here are some essential heart health tips:
- Stay Active: Regular physical activity strengthens the heart. Aim for 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week.
- Eat Heart-Healthy Foods: Incorporate more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins into your diet. Reduce intake of processed foods, salt, and saturated fats.
- Manage Stress: Chronic stress can have a negative impact on your heart. Find healthy ways to manage stress through mindfulness, relaxation, or hobbies.
- Quit Smoking: Smoking is a major risk factor for heart disease. If you smoke, seek support to quit as soon as possible.
