A compound one. Bacteria are far too small for a stereo microscope. Our junior monocular at 400x will show shape and arrangement; individual cell detail is at the limit of what a school instrument resolves.

They are commercially fixed, stained and sealed under a coverslip rather than live cultures. Beyond that the manufacturer supplies no handling guidance with the set, so we are not going to make a claim on their behalf - check with your lab technician or science coordinator before it goes into a classroom.

Because it is the standard teaching example of an acid-fast bacterium in tissue, and it is on most senior biology syllabuses. It is a prepared histology slide, not a culture.

They can make a smear from yoghurt or a cheek swab, and it is a good exercise. But a home-made smear teaches slide preparation; these teach what bacteria actually look like. Most courses do both.

Twelve slides is one per bench group in a rotation. If everyone needs to see the Gram stain slides at once, a second set is worth having.

In these cases, Mega Office Supplies will cover reasonable return shipping costs, and photographic evidence may be requested to help process the claim. Items should be reported within a reasonable timeframe after delivery.
