The distinction that matters when you are buying: this is a compound microscope, so it looks through thin specimens on a slide - onion cells, pond water, a cross-section of a leaf. It is not the one for looking at a beetle or a coin. That is the stereo microscope, which is a different instrument for a different job.

At 400x students can see individual plant cells and their nuclei, which is the point at which biology stops being a diagram in a book.

Why the junior model rather than a full lab microscope: coarse focus only, so a student cannot lose the image chasing a fine adjustment; LED rather than a mirror or a hot bulb; and a base heavy enough that it does not walk across the bench. It is compact enough to store thirty of them, which is what makes a class set realistic.

Buy prepared slides with it - a first lesson with a microscope and nothing to look at is a wasted lesson.

Compound (this one) for anything on a slide: cells, pond water, thin sections. Stereo for anything solid you want to look at the outside of: insects, rocks, seeds, circuit boards. They are not substitutes.

No. Buy a prepared slide set with it - the mixed bacteria set of twelve is a common first purchase - or blank slides and coverslips if students will make their own.

For school biology, yes. 400x resolves plant cell walls, nuclei and most protists. Above that you are into oil immersion and a very different budget.

Deliberately. On a junior instrument a fine focus is mostly a way for a student to lose the image and not know why. Coarse focus with a 4x objective to find the specimen first is the workflow this is built for.

One between two is the usual ratio. Thirty students is fifteen microscopes if you want everyone actually looking rather than waiting.

Returns, Refunds & Replacements

Mega Office Supplies accepts change-of-mind returns for unopened and unused products within 14 days from the invoice date, provided the item is returned in its original packaging and in resalable condition. Original shipping costs are not refundable, return shipping is the customer’s responsibility, and a restocking fee may apply depending on the product type and supplier.
