Power and working distance. A hand magnifier is 3x to 5x, held at arm's length, and shows you a whole leaf. This is 10x, held against your eye with the object 2cm away, and shows you part of a leaf in detail. They are not substitutes.

It takes a minute to learn. Hold it to your eye, not to the object, then move the object until it snaps into focus. Once a student has done it once they have it.

Geology, mostly - it is the standard tool for looking at mineral grains. Also fibres, print, insect detail, and anything where a hand magnifier is not quite enough.

It is metal and it folds shut, which is exactly why it lasts. Dropped open onto concrete the glass can chip; dropped closed it will be fine.

This is the strongest in the range. Above 10x you are into microscope territory, where the object has to be held still and lit properly.

Delivery time depends on your location, the size of your order, and the shipping option selected at checkout. Original shipping costs are not refundable, return shipping is the customer’s responsibility, and a restocking fee may apply depending on the product type and supplier. Where required under Australian Consumer Law, a repair, replacement, or refund will be offered. In these cases, Mega Office Supplies will cover reasonable return shipping costs, and photographic evidence may be requested to help process the claim. Items should be reported within a reasonable timeframe after delivery.
