The Uni PWE-8K in red, colour code 15, is a single liquid chalk marker with a broad 8mm chisel tip for the words on a board that need to be noticed: prices, specials and sale notices.

Red is the colour shoppers have learnt to read as a deal. Circle the price, write Today Only across the corner of the board, or letter a clearance banner on the shop door. On a black board red is a mid-dark tone, so it reads best at a moderate size or outlined in white; on clear glass with a bright background it holds its own as a main colour.

This is the flat primary red, not the metallic M15, which has a sheen and a lighter, rosier tone. The chisel tip makes quick work of big numerals and turns on its edge for thinner strokes. Rain should not shift it, according to Uni Australia, but a wet cloth will clear it for next week's offers. Uni UK list it as not smudge resistant, so let it dry before anyone brushes past.

It shows clearly up close, but red is a mid-dark tone on black. For prices that need to be read from the footpath, write them larger or outline them in white.
This is standard red, code 15, a flat primary colour. The metallic version, code M15, adds a sheen, and Uni's photo shows it as a paler, pinker shade.
You will find red in the assorted 8mm wallet of 8 alongside violet, white, light blue and the four fluorescents. The metallic packs carry metallic red instead.
Uni UK list it as not smudge resistant. Let it dry fully before touching the board or writing over it in another colour.
On porous surfaces such as bare wood, paper or unsealed boards, which Uni UK rule out. Test a small area first on any surface you are unsure of.
