Red Violet 61 For Vivid Florals And Lettering

Red violet, colour number 61, is a vivid pink leaning purple, and here you get ten Staedtler 371-61 pigment brush pens in it.

This is the colour of fuchsias, bougainvillea, peonies and dragon fruit, and it turns up in a lot of modern brush lettering because it is bright without being a plain pink. It bridges the warm and cool sides of a palette: next to red it looks purple, next to violet it looks pink.

For florals, use it as the main petal colour and step down into plum 68 for the shadows, or lighten the edges with a paler pink laid while wet so the two blend. Staedtler describe tip-to-tip blending for small areas: touch a darker pen to the tip of a lighter one and draw, and the colour fades as you go.

Staedtler place red violet in Reds and Pinks 371 C6-1 and Basic Colours 371 C12-1, as well as the 24 and 36 colour boxes.

FAQs

Ten, all red violet 61. Staedtler catalogue this colour as a single pen without a box count, so ten is our unit.
It sits between the two. Beside red 2 it reads purple; beside violet 6 it reads pink.
Plum 68 is a natural shadow tone for it, and bordeaux 23 works for a warmer, deeper shade.
Staedtler list red violet in 371 C6-1 Reds and Pinks, C12-1 Basic Colours, C24 and C36.
Staedtler rate every 371 colour for lightfastness against the blue wool scale and grey scale, and call the ink extremely lightfast. The figure for 61 itself is not shown on the Staedtler page we checked.
