Twelve Core Colours In Permanent Pigment Ink

Staedtler 371 C12-1 is the Basic Colours box of the pigment brush pen 371: twelve pens covering yellow, orange, red, red violet, violet, blue, pale blue, willow green, green, brown, cool grey medium and intense black.

These are the colours most drawings lean on, which makes this box a sensible first purchase before adding themed sets. Primaries and their neighbours are there for mixing on the page, a brown and a mid grey handle shading and ground, and the intense black takes care of outlines and lettering.

The pens use Staedtler Multi Ink, described by Staedtler as a water-based, translucent India ink made with high quality pigments. It dries fast and becomes permanent and waterproof, so a second colour can be glazed over the first without smearing once fully dry. Staedtler rate the ink for extreme lightfastness, and their notes add that it will not bleed into or show on the back of the sheet. A stable brush nib gives thin or thick strokes depending on pressure, and Staedtler state the range is made in Germany.

Expand the palette with other brush pens, compare brush markers and art markers, or see all Staedtler lines.

FAQs

Yellow, orange, red, red violet, violet, blue, pale blue, willow green, green, brown, cool grey medium and intense black. Staedtler number them 1, 4, 2, 61, 6, 3, 30, 51, 5, 76, 87 and 99.
Yes. By Staedtler colour lists, all twelve of these colours are also in the 371 C36. The 371 C24-1 shares none of them, so it pairs with this box without repeats.
Not with water once dry, as Staedtler describe Multi Ink as permanent and waterproof. For softened edges, Staedtler point to their colour-neutral blender 893, which dissolves the dried ink.
Staedtler list all types of artist paper and almost all other surfaces as suitable, and state that the ink will not bleed through.
Staedtler now use the Artist Series box pictured here. Stock packed earlier may arrive in a black pigmentArts pen box, which carries the same article number, 371 C12-1.
