Golden Ochre, An Earth Yellow For Landscapes And Warm Lettering

Pack of 10 Staedtler 371-16 pigment brush pens in 16 golden ochre, the earthy yellow of the 371 range and one of the six colours in Staedtler's Greys and Caramels box.

Ochre is an old painter's name for a yellow earth, and this pen fills the same role on paper: dry grass, sand, autumn leaves, weathered timber, the warm side of a sunlit wall. It is a gentler, browner yellow than 1 yellow, so it suits naturalistic sketches where a bright primary would look out of place. In lettering it gives a vintage, sepia leaning headline, and it sits comfortably next to 730 sienna raw and 790 umber when a piece needs a run of earth tones.

Each pen carries Staedtler's Multi Ink. Staedtler list it as permanent, waterproof and fast drying, and say it will not bleed through the page. They also say colours can be blended into gradients while the ink is still wet, so ochre can fade into sienna or umber on the paper, and that their blender 893 dissolves the dried ink for washes.
