Graphite That Turns To Wash

Staedtler Mars Lumograph aquarell 100A SBK4 is a blistercard with three watercolour graphite pencils in 8B, 6B and 4B plus a round brush #8, and this listing is 10 cards.

These are graphite pencils with a water-soluble lead. Sketch with them like normal pencils, then brush over the lines with clean water and the graphite dissolves into soft grey washes. Staedtler describe them as premium pencils for dry-to-wet transitions in classic watercolour techniques, letting a preliminary sketch move straight into fluid washes.

The three degrees cover dark (8B), mid (6B) and lighter (4B) tones, which are all the degrees Staedtler make in the 100A. Staedtler give the lead as about 3.6 mm in a hexagonal barrel, with high break-resistance and lines that reproduce well. The pencils and card are printed Made in Germany.

For sharpening, Staedtler name two options, the 511 001 tub and the 510 10 metal sharpener. Their eraser pick is the Mars plastic 526 50, and for painting they point to 989 synthetic brushes and 949 water brushes. Each card is a neat gift or a starter for art students; ten cards suits a class or a shop counter.
