The Rexel Optima 40 staples up to 40 sheets of 80gsm paper using Rexel low force technology, which the manufacturer rates at up to 50 percent less effort than a traditional stapler.

Rexel publishes a 70mm paper insertion depth for the Optima 40, so an A4 sheet can be stapled well in from the edge rather than only at the corner. The stapling head takes Rexel Optima 26/6 staples, sold as Optima No. 56, and Rexel supplies the machine with 1000 of them. Refilling is top loading, and Rexel states jam free performance when compatible staples are used.

Flat clinch stapling folds the staple legs flat against the back of the document, which keeps filed stacks thinner and makes a full drawer or lever arch file hold more. For teams stapling report sets all day, the reduced closing effort is what separates this machine from a low cost desk stapler.

Rexel rates it at up to 40 sheets of 80gsm paper. Heavier or coated stock reduces that figure, so treat 40 sheets of ordinary copy paper as the rated ceiling rather than a guarantee for every paper type.
Rexel Optima 26/6 staples, which are also sold as Optima No. 56, and Rexel supplies 1000 of them with the machine. Do not substitute the Optima HD70 staples used by the Optima 70, because they are a different staple.
It depends on volume. A basic desk stapler is fine for occasional use on thin documents. The Optima 40 is aimed at people who staple thick sets repeatedly, and the return is in reduced hand effort and fewer misfires rather than in sheet count alone.
It is the Rexel name for the mechanism that reduces the effort needed to close a staple. Rexel publishes a figure of up to 50 percent less effort than a traditional stapler but does not publish how the mechanism works, so we do not describe the internals.
Rexel states jam free performance when compatible staples are used, which means most jams trace back to the wrong staple or a bent strip. Rexel does not publish a jam clearing procedure for this model on its product page, so follow the instructions supplied in the box.
Rexel publishes a 70mm paper insertion depth for the Optima 40. The Optima 70 has a different published figure, so do not assume the two models match.
Rexel publishes a 5 year guarantee for the Optima 40, conditional on using Rexel staples. We have found no separate Australian warranty term published for this model.
