The premise is simple and it works: take more than 30 photographs of things children actually see - a car park, a supermarket shelf, a footpath - and use each one as the start of an open-ended maths task. The maths stops being an exercise on a worksheet and becomes something the child noticed on the way to school.
Three formats of the same photographs, on purpose. The disc lets you put a photo on the big screen for the whole class. The cards let a small group hold one. The book gives you the teaching. Each card has the related activities printed on the back, so a card can be handed to a group without the book.
Open-ended, not single-answer. These are rich tasks - the kind where different children reach different defensible answers and have to justify them. That is harder to run than a worksheet and it is the reason the book exists.
The authors: Dr Catherine Attard lectures in primary mathematics pedagogy and taught primary before that; her research is on student engagement with mathematics. John Pattison has taught mathematics in primary schools and worked in teacher professional development with the NSW Department of Education.
One practical note. The photographs come on a physical disc. If your laptops have no optical drive, plan to copy the files once from a machine that does.

Returns, Refunds & Replacements
Mega Office Supplies accepts change-of-mind returns for unopened and unused products within 14 days from the invoice date, provided the item is returned in its original packaging and in resalable condition. Original shipping costs are not refundable, return shipping is the customer’s responsibility, and a restocking fee may apply depending on the product type and supplier. Some items, including electronics, assembled or installed furniture, food, beverages, medicines, custom-made products, and certain bulk or special-order items, are not eligible for return unless required under Australian Consumer Law.
If your order arrives faulty, damaged, or incorrect, please contact Mega Office Supplies as soon as possible. Where required under Australian Consumer Law, a repair, replacement, or refund will be offered. In these cases, Mega Office Supplies will cover reasonable return shipping costs, and photographic evidence may be requested to help process the claim. Items should be reported within a reasonable timeframe after delivery.
