48 pages of maths games for 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 20 sided dice

Teacher book by Dr Paul Swan. Number recognition and ordering, place value, arithmetic operations, multiplication facts, square and prime numbers, and early chance and strategy. Teachers notes, extensions and variations included. All primary. $40.80.

Dice are the cheapest randomiser in the building and the most under-used. This book covers a lot of ground with them: not only the obvious addition practice, but square and prime numbers, and early work on chance and strategy.

It assumes more than a six-sided die. The activities use 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 20 sided dice, which is what makes the place value and probability work possible. A polyhedral dice set is worth buying alongside if all you own is standard cubes.

Teachers notes, extensions and variations are included with each game - so an activity that turns out too easy for a group has a harder version already written, rather than needing to be invented on the spot.

Individual, small group or whole class. Pitched at all primary years, with the supplier noting a lean towards lower and middle primary.

Companion to Dice Dilemmas, and to Card Capers, which does the same job with playing cards.

Dice are not included. And no barcode is printed on our supplier's listing for this title, so this page shows none rather than a guess.

FAQs

No - the book only. Order a polyhedral dice set with it if you only own six-sided cubes, because a good share of the activities need the other shapes.
Not for every activity, but the place value and probability work depends on them. A standard polyhedral set of 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 20 sided dice covers the book.
All primary, leaning to lower and middle primary. Extensions are provided for stronger groups.
Same author, same approach, different randomiser - dice instead of playing cards. They are companion books, not duplicates.
Our supplier does not publish one for this title, and we will not make one up.
