Rub a polythene or perspex rod with wool and electrons move. It is the oldest demonstration in electrostatics and it still works better than any video, because the student does the rubbing and then watches the paper jump.

Why a proper cloth rather than a jumper sleeve. The supplier's point is that the material is chosen for charge generation rather than for how it looks - pure wool, no printing, no synthetic blend. Mixed fabrics give inconsistent results, which turns a reliable demonstration into an argument about whether it worked.

A size discrepancy we cannot resolve. The product name says 30 x 30cm and the supplier's own description says 25 x 25cm. We do not know which is right and we are not going to pick one. If the exact size matters, ask us and we will confirm before you order.

Pair it with the rabbit fur cloth: the two materials sit at opposite ends of the triboelectric series, so between them you can charge a rod either positively or negatively and show that the two charges behave differently.

You can, and it will sometimes work. A pure wool cloth works consistently, which is the difference between a demonstration and a maybe. At $4.00 the certainty is cheap.
Less well - moisture in the air bleeds the charge away. That is true of all electrostatics, not this cloth. Dry days and a warm room give the best results.
Polythene or perspex. Wool rubbed on polythene charges the rod negatively; on perspex, positively. Rods are sold separately - ask us.
Wool and fur sit at different points on the triboelectric series, so between them you can produce either sign of charge and show that like charges repel and unlike attract.

Returns, Refunds & Replacements

Mega Office Supplies accepts change-of-mind returns for unopened and unused products within 14 days from the invoice date, provided the item is returned in its original packaging and in resalable condition. Original shipping costs are not refundable, return shipping is the customer’s responsibility, and a restocking fee may apply depending on the product type and supplier.
