A Straightforward Friction-Head Compass
Staedtler ARCO 559 50 WP is a single precision compass with a friction head, a hinged leg and an obtuse-angled safety needle, supplied in a soft wallet with a spare tube.
A friction head holds the radius by resistance, so you open the legs to size and they stay put while you draw, with smooth, precise adjustment. The hinged leg lets the point and lead meet the paper more upright on wider circles. Staedtler give a maximum circle of 340mm and a length of 128mm.
It is made from metal and what Staedtler call distortion free glass-fibre reinforced plastic. The obtuse-angled needle is Staedtler's safety needle design, a blunter point than a standard needle.
Staedtler aim the ARCO compass at students, hobby and creative users. For the full instrument kit, the ARCO 559 09 set comes in a hard case.
