Twelve Pencils, Nine Grades, One Box

Staedtler 110 C12-1 is a cardboard box of 12 tradition graphite pencils in assorted degrees, a ready-made range for learning to draw and shade.

Staedtler Australia describe the set as 12 pencils in 9 degrees. The grade swatches printed on the box show 6B, 5B, two 4B, 3B, three 2B, B, HB, H and 2H, so the soft grades that wear fastest are doubled up while the harder grades cover outlines and light construction.

Every pencil is a tradition 110, the line Staedtler sell for writing, drawing and sketching, with the super-bonded lead they say makes it unbelievably break-resistant. Barrels are red and black with gold print and the grade on each one, and Staedtler state the range is made in Germany.

It is a good fit for a first drawing course, secondary school art, or an adult picking up sketching again. Add an eraser and sharpener and the kit is complete.
