The Hard Degree Of Mars Lumograph Charcoal

Staedtler 100C-H is the H, or hard, degree of the Mars Lumograph charcoal pencil, the firmest of the three degrees Staedtler make, in a box of 12.

Many charcoal artists begin a drawing with the harder degree, blocking in proportions and light tones that are easy to adjust, then move to M and S as the darks go in. H is also the one for fine hatching, crisp edges and hair detail, where a firmer point helps. Staedtler say the lead has a high charcoal content that produces deep, velvety blacks with a textured, matte finish, and that it blends smoothly and can be corrected and layered.

The charcoal core is approx. 4.5 mm across inside a hexagonal wood case, which Staedtler say gives clean handling and sharpens easily. For accessories they recommend the Mars double-hole sharpener 510 25 or sandpaper 923, the kneadable art eraser 5427 and a blending stump 5426.

Staedtler make three degrees: S soft, M medium and H hard. H is the firmest, so it suits lighter layers and precise lines, while S gives the heaviest darks.
Charcoal. Staedtler describe a lead formulation with a high charcoal content, set in a wooden case. Their graphite drawing pencils are the separate Mars Lumograph 100 range.
Staedtler name two options: the Mars 510 25 double-hole sharpener, or sandpaper 923 for shaping the point. Sharpen gently, as a charcoal core is more fragile than graphite.

Mega Office Supplies accepts change-of-mind returns for unopened and unused products within 14 days from the invoice date, provided the item is returned in its original packaging and in resalable condition.
