Derwent Academy Watercolour Pencil Terracotta Box of 6

Yes. The Derwent Academy Watercolour Pencils work perfectly dry, behaving like a soft, smooth coloured pencil. Adding water with a brush activates the pigment to create fluid washes and blended tones. You can combine both techniques in the same artwork.

The key difference is permanence and intensity. Inktense pencils are ink-based, produce vivid saturated colour, and become permanent once dry. Watercolour pencils remain re-wettable after drying, giving softer, more traditional watercolour results that you can continue to lift and rework.

This listing is for one box of 6 Derwent Academy Watercolour Pencils, all in the Terracotta shade (reference 64). No other colours or accessories are included.

Terracotta is a warm, earthy red-brown that works well as a base tone or shadow layer in portrait and figure drawing. It pairs naturally with other earth tones such as ochre, sienna, and burnt umber for realistic skin and warm landscape palettes.

The cedar barrel sharpens cleanly with a standard pencil sharpener or craft knife. Sharpening slowly and at a gentle angle reduces the risk of snapping the water-soluble core. Avoid excessive pressure, particularly when the pencil has been used wet and the tip is still soft.
