Derwent Academy Watercolour Pencil Raw Sienna Box of 6

Yes. Derwent Academy Watercolour Pencils work fully dry, delivering smooth, blendable colour similar to a quality coloured pencil. The soft 3.5mm core layers and mixes well without any water. Adding water simply transforms the marks into fluid washes.

The key difference is permanence. Inktense pigment becomes fixed once dry and cannot be re-wetted, making colours brighter and more intense. Watercolour pencils remain re-wettable after drying, allowing you to rework and move colour around - ideal for softer, more traditional watercolour results.

You receive 6 individual Derwent Academy Watercolour Pencils, all in the Raw Sienna colour (shade 58). No brush or other accessories are included. A water brush or standard watercolour brush is recommended for activating the pigment.

Cold-pressed watercolour paper with a weight of at least 190gsm is recommended when using the pencils wet, as it handles moisture without warping. When used dry, standard cartridge or drawing paper works well. Heavier paper produces the best results for mixed wet-and-dry techniques.

Derwent Academy products are positioned as entry-to-mid-level art tools and are commonly used in secondary school and tertiary art programmes. Adult supervision is recommended for younger children due to the sharpened tip. Always check individual school supply requirements before ordering.
