Derwent Watercolour Pencil Straw Yellow Box of 6

Yes. Derwent Watercolour Pencils work fully dry as a standard coloured pencil for drawing, layering and blending. Adding water with a brush activates the pigment and creates fluid watercolour washes. The choice of technique is entirely yours.

Inktense pencils use ink-based pigment that becomes permanent once dry, producing vivid, saturated colour. Watercolour pencils are gentler in tone and remain water-soluble even after drying, so you can re-wet and rework the colour. Watercolour pencils are the better choice when you want subtle, naturalistic results.

This listing is for one box of 6 Derwent Watercolour Pencils, all in the Straw Yellow shade (reference 05). No brush or other accessories are included.

Absolutely. The soft, smooth strip and forgiving watercolour medium make these pencils accessible for beginners while still delivering results that satisfy experienced artists. They are widely used in school and TAFE art programmes across Australia.

Yes. The hexagonal Californian incense cedar barrel is easy to sharpen with a standard pencil sharpener or craft knife. Cedar is chosen specifically because it sharpens cleanly and consistently without splitting the strip.

Yes. All pencils in the Derwent Watercolour range use the same water-soluble formulation, so colours blend and layer naturally together, whether applied dry or activated with water. Straw Yellow works particularly well for warm flesh tones, foliage highlights and landscape work.
