Hand-driven generator producing alternating and direct current simultaneously - split ring and brushes at the front for DC, brushes at the rear for AC. $184.50.

Producing both at once is the whole idea. Most school apparatus shows AC or DC and asks students to imagine the other. This one has DC collection on the front and AC collection on the back of the same armature, so a class compares two traces from one turn of the handle. The difference between a split ring and slip rings stops being a diagram.

It runs the other way too. Feed current in and the same machine demonstrates an electromagnetic motor - which is the point students most often miss, that a motor and a generator are the same machine used in opposite directions.

Hand driven, so no batteries and no power point. The mechanical energy comes from a student's arm, which also makes the energy conversion obvious: turning gets harder as more current is drawn, and that is a lesson you cannot get from a battery.

Designed for low-current experiments. Connect it to a lamp, a galvanometer or an oscilloscope - none of which are included.
