What goes on a company seal
Under section 123 of the Corporations Act 2001, a company may have a common seal. If it does, the seal must show the company's name and its ACN (or its ABN, if the ABN includes the ACN). Most company seals put the name around the top edge, the ACN around the bottom and the words Common Seal or Company Seal in the centre.

Do companies still need a seal?
Since 1998 Australian companies haven't been required to have a common seal, and documents can be signed by directors instead. Many companies still use one, because some banks, overseas bodies and older agreements ask for a sealed document, and a seal gives formal documents a finished look. Check your company's constitution if you're unsure how documents should be executed.
Choosing a seal stamp
- Round self-inking seals are the most popular. They're quick, clean and need no separate pad.
- Larger seals give long company names more room. The builder shows which sizes fit your name.
- Pick black, blue, red, green or violet ink. Blue and black are the usual choices for formal documents.

What must be on a company seal in Australia?
