X-Press It Gold Size 5 Litres is a bulk jug of water based gilding adhesive for studios, sign writers, restorers and workshops that leaf every week.

Its label sets out the full method: apply a thin even coat with a soft brush, allow approximately 10 minutes for curing, and once it changes from white to clear, lay metal leaf over every sized area. The surfaces listed are paper, cardboard, canvas, timber, glass and ceramics. X-Press It also recommends varnishing imitation leaf so it does not tarnish.
