A Cool Metallic Blue For Dark Boards And Glass

The Uni PWE-5M in Metallic Blue is a single liquid chalk marker with a medium bullet tip, carrying a shimmering blue that stands out on black chalkboards, dark glass and mirrors.

Plain colours can look flat on a dark board once the lights are dimmed. A metallic shade gives lettering a sheen where a pendant lamp or a shop spotlight falls on it, which suits a cocktail list, the headline on a winter menu or the date of an evening event. Most sign writers treat it as an accent: headings and borders in Metallic Blue, the detail underneath in white.

Its ink is water based. Uni recommend it on non-porous surfaces, listing glass, windows, mirrors and metal, and say it copes with rain within reason before a damp cloth lifts it. Porous surfaces are ruled out. Chalkboards are the one surface where the two Uni sites disagree, so read the FAQ below before lettering a board you want to keep clean.

One marker in Metallic Blue. For several metallic shades at once, the PWE-5M metallic wallets of 4 and 8 are linked below as related products.
Uni call the tip a medium bullet. Their Australian site lists it at 1.8mm and their UK site gives 1.8 to 2.5mm, so expect a line within that band rather than one exact width.
Uni UK name chalkboards among the surfaces it writes on and wipes off, but Uni Australia say on their wallet pages that it can be used on chalkboards for a permanent application. Boards are sealed differently, so put a small mark in a corner and clean it with a damp cloth before lettering the whole board.
Anything porous. Uni state it is not suitable for porous surfaces, so raw timber, unsealed slate, paper and bare plaster are out because the ink soaks in.
