Staedtler Mars 561 98-4BK, version 4 of the Mars reduction scale ruler, covers the larger ratios: 1:100, 1:200, 1:250, 1:300, 1:400 and 1:500.

Where versions 1 and 2 work at building and room level, version 4 steps back to the whole lot. Ratios such as 1:200 and 1:500 are common on site plans, subdivision layouts, landscape concepts and civil drawings, so this is the version planners, surveyors and landscape students tend to reach for.

Like the rest of the Mars 561 family it has a triangular body in solid white plastic, six scales, and coloured grooves so you can tell the faces apart at a glance. It is supplied on a hangable blistercard printed with its six ratios, and Staedtler state it is made in Germany.
