Twelve Warm Colours For Sunsets, Florals And Food Illustration

Staedtler 371 C12-5 is the Warm Colours box: twelve pigment brush pens running from yellow through orange and red to coral, mauve and sienna.

The twelve colours, by Staedtler number, are 1 yellow, 110 bright yellow, 16 golden ochre, 4 orange, 24 scarlet red, 29 carmine red, 229 cherry red, 269 wine red, 260 mauve, 420 coral, 620 lavender light and 730 sienna raw.

That list reads like a sunset, and it paints one well: yellow at the horizon, orange and coral above, reds and wine into the clouds, lavender where the sky cools. The same palette handles fruit and food illustration, autumn leaves, roses and poppies, and warm skin shadows with coral and sienna. Four reds of different depth give real choice for lettering, from a bright scarlet headline to a formal wine red.

There is no blue, green, grey or black in this box. For those, the 371 C12-6 Cool Colours box is the natural partner, and 99 intense black is sold separately.

All twelve use Staedtler Multi Ink, a translucent pigment India ink that Staedtler describe as fast-drying, permanent, waterproof and highly lightfast. Blend reds into oranges while wet, or layer them once dry for deeper tones.

No. It is a warm only palette. The 371 C12-6 Cool Colours box covers blues and greens, and 99 intense black is sold on its own.
Staedtler now pack the 371 sets in the Artist Series box shown. The earlier black pigmentArts pen box may still be supplied while stock turns over.
C6-5 holds six colours at the yellow and orange end. C12-5 shares five of them and adds the deeper reds, mauve, lavender, ochre and sienna.
Staedtler say gradients can be made while the ink is wet and colours mixed by layering once dry. The blender 893, sold separately, dissolves dried Multi Ink.
