Ice Blue For Pale Skies, Water And Soft Winter Scenes

Ten Staedtler 371-310 pigment brush pens in 310 ice blue, a very pale, cool blue from the pigment brush pen 371 range.

Light colours earn their keep in underpainting. Ice blue lays in a sky, the shadow side of snow, a pool of water or a frosty background before darker blues go on top, and because Staedtler describe the ink as translucent, the pale layer keeps glowing through what follows. On its own it makes gentle planner headers and pastel lettering that stays readable without shouting.

That translucency cuts both ways: ice blue will not cover dark paper or black line work. It works best on white or light artist paper, where Staedtler say it does not bleed through. For a deeper sky, move up to 30 pale blue, then 3 blue and 36 indigo blue.

Staedtler list the Multi Ink as permanent, waterproof and lightfast, and say fresh colour can be painted over it without smudging once it has fully dried.

FAQs

No. Staedtler describe the Multi Ink as translucent, so a pale colour like 310 will not cover dark paper. Use it on white or light surfaces.
Ten. Staedtler list 371-310 as one pen and publish no box size, so the ten is our unit of sale.
In the 371 range, 30 pale blue, 3 blue and 36 indigo blue all run darker than ice blue, in roughly that order.
Yes. Staedtler say that once the ink has fully dried it can be painted over without smudging, so darker blues or outlines can go straight on top.
Staedtler claim extreme lightfastness for Multi Ink and say each colour is classified on the blue wool scale. Their Australian page does not publish the rating for colour 310.
