Clean Paint Lines Along Trim, Tile and Glass

You receive one roll of ScotchBlue Original Painter's Tape 2090, a blue crepe paper masking tape 24 mm wide and 54.8 m long that 3M says removes cleanly for up to 14 days.

3M rates the tape at a medium adhesive level and lists it for smooth or lightly textured walls, trim, baseboards, tile and glass, on interior and exterior jobs. The 24 mm width suits cutting in along skirting boards, door frames and window trim, masking light switch surrounds during a repaint and marking straight edges on a feature wall. We also stock the same tape in a 36 mm width.

The acrylic adhesive sits on a crepe paper backing, and 3M says the tape delivers sharp paint lines and leaves no damage or sticky residue when removed within 14 days, and that it does not cause surface damage even in direct sunlight. That suits exterior trim and sunny rooms where a paint job runs over several days.

Keep a roll in the maintenance kit beside the drop sheets and rollers. Browse our painting supplies, compare other masking tapes, see the Scotch range or our full tape collection.

FAQs

One roll. You receive a single ScotchBlue Original 2090 roll, 24 mm wide and 54.8 m long as 3M labels it. Our supplier's listing rounds the length to 55 m, but 3M's own figure is 54.8 m.
3M says it removes cleanly for up to 14 days from interior and exterior surfaces, leaving no damage or sticky residue, and the roll core reads remove within 14 days. 3M makes no clean-removal claim beyond that.
The roll core says to test before use and not to use the tape with or on lacquer, wallcoverings, unpainted wallboard or wood, so read the full caution on the core before you start. 3M lists the tape for smooth or lightly textured walls, trim, baseboards, tile and glass.
3M rates this as a medium adhesive tape and says it leaves no damage or residue on the surfaces it lists when removed within 14 days. 3M's product listing does not give a cure time for new paint before taping over it, so test a small area first, as the roll core advises.
3M's tips are to make sure the surface is clean, dry and dust-free, press the tape down firmly as you go and let it set for about 30 to 60 minutes before painting. Remove it once the paint is dry to the touch, pulling it slowly back on itself at a 45-degree angle.
Yes. 3M lists it for indoor and outdoor use, says it resists UV and sunlight, and states that it does not cause surface damage even when exposed to direct sunlight, with clean removal from exterior surfaces for up to 14 days.
