100 six-sided dice. Each face shows 1, 2 or 3 - every number appears twice. Storage jar included. Ages 4+. $51.50, so about 52 cents a die.

A standard die is wrong for a four-year-old. Roll a six and a five and the child is stuck: too many to subitise, too big to count on fingers reliably, and the game stops.

These cap out at three. Every roll is a number a beginner can see at a glance and add without help. Two dice give totals from 2 to 6 - the whole range a child working on early addition needs, and nothing beyond it.

Each number appears twice on each die, so the odds are even - one in three for each. That makes them genuinely useful for a first look at chance, where a standard die's one-in-six is too fine to notice in a short lesson.

A hundred dice is a class set with spares. Thirty children with three dice each, and you still have ten in the jar for the ones that roll under the shelving.

The jar is not a throwaway detail. Loose dice migrate. A jar with a lid is the difference between a resource that is still complete next year and one that is not.

Two things the supplier has not told us

The colours are not specified either. The supplier's own lesson ideas suggest sorting the dice by colour, which implies more than one, but they never say which colours or how many of each. We have asked that too.
