Once water has been applied and the colour has dried, it becomes permanent. This means you can apply additional washes, ink, or paint over the top without disturbing the layer beneath - a significant advantage for layered and mixed media work.

Yes. The Inktense formula is suitable for use on silk and cotton. This makes the blocks a popular choice for fabric art and textile craft projects, which standard watercolour blocks generally cannot achieve.

The formula is the same water-soluble ink. The block format is simply larger and chunkier, making it easier to cover broad areas quickly and to use the side of the block for wide strokes. Pencils offer finer detail and precision.

Derwent recommends Inktense products for art students aged 14 and above, as well as adult hobbyists and working artists. The blocks are not intended as a children's product due to the permanent nature of the ink.
