Yellow Oxide, a mustard earth yellow

Chromacryl Yellow Oxide in a 250ml jar puts a mustard-ochre earth yellow in front of a group for landscapes, autumn and natural studies.

The swatch is a muted golden ochre, more mustard than bright yellow, with lighter streaks where brushed thin. In the jar the paint looks an olive-tinged mustard. Chroma prints Yellow Oxide on the band under Medium Bodied and Students Acrylic. It belongs with the earth colours, alongside Gold Oxide, Red Oxide and the siennas.

An earth yellow gives fields, sandstone and autumn foliage a natural look that a primary yellow cannot match. One 250ml jar shared by a small group keeps landscapes on the table in harmony, and the label is easy to read on a crowded shelf.

Earth colour work comes together with Chromacryl oxides, umbers and siennas, classroom canvas boards and other painting supplies. Students can then compare how each earth yellow sits beside greens and blues in a landscape.
