Metallic Silver for Dark and Light Stock

Silver is the one Noble Metal colour that works at both ends of the paper range, and uni-ball publishes the whole UM-120NM line as a waterproof pigment ink laying a 0.8mm line.

Most metallic pens are bought for dark stock, and silver does that job, but it is also the one that still reads on white. A metallic silver line on a pale sheet behaves like a soft grey with a sheen, so it marks without shouting. That makes it the colour to reach for when the same box has to cover black invitations and ordinary office paper.

uni-ball publishes the ink as waterproof and acid free, so a silver annotation on an archive sheet is not going to lift the first time it meets a damp bench. Silver is one of 8 metallic colours uni-ball names for UM-120NM. The ordering unit here is a box of 12.

Gold, bronze and the five remaining shades are filed under gel pens. The rest of what uni-ball makes is at uni-ball, ballpoints and rollerballs at pens, and pads, files and refills at writing supplies.

FAQs

Yes, though quietly. A metallic silver on a pale sheet reads as a soft grey with a sheen rather than a strong mark, which is useful for annotation but not for anything that has to be read across a room. On dark stock it does the opposite and stands right out.
No. A white pen lays an opaque flat colour; this is a metallic, so it reflects and shifts with the angle you hold the card at. If you want flat opaque coverage on black, a silver metallic is the wrong tool.
Eight. uni-ball's own product page says the pen is available in 8 metallic colours but names none of them, and only five colour images appear there. The eight are named on uni-ball's page for the UM-120NM8P eight piece wallet: blue, green, violet, pink, red, gold, silver, bronze. That page is where we take the colour names from, rather than reading them off image filenames.
uni-ball does not publish whether UM-120NM is capped or retractable, so we are not going to state it either way. uni-ball's own product page lists the code, the tip size and the ink, and stops there. The product photography is the best guide until we can confirm it from the pack.
Not one that uni-ball publishes for UM-120NM. Several codes in the Signo family have a sheet and this one does not, so there is no classification or handling statement for us to pass on. We will not borrow a sheet from a neighbouring Signo code, because the ink is not the same ink.
uni-ball does not publish a refill code against UM-120NM, so we are not going to name one. Other pens in the Signo family do list a refill, but assuming the metallic ink shares it would be a guess.
