The whole Time Timer idea is that time becomes a quantity you can see rather than a number you have to interpret. Set the disk, walk away, and the red area shrinks. A four-year-old understands it. So does an adult in a meeting.

Why 20 minutes rather than 60? Because on a 60 minute dial, twenty minutes is a third of the face and the movement is slow enough to be almost invisible. On a 20 minute dial the same period fills the whole face and visibly moves. For silent reading, a homework block, instrument practice or a single agenda item, the shorter dial does the job the longer one cannot.

On a 60 minute dial a 20 minute task barely appears to move. On a 20 minute dial it fills the face and the change is obvious from across the room. If most of your timed blocks are under half an hour, this is the better face.
