An A3 Drafting Station That Packs Away

The Staedtler Mars 661 A3 is a portable A3 drawing board with a parallel drafting arm that runs on a twin rail, giving square, parallel lines without a full drafting table.

The drafting arm carries a double-sided scale and slides along the rail with an even glide. A single-hand double locking mechanism fixes it at any point, and a colour indicator shows at a glance whether it is locked or free. Paper is held flat by clamping strips on both sides of the board, so there is no tape to peel off a finished sheet. A needle hole in the scale lets you set a compass radius directly from the board.

Staedtler build the board from sturdy, break-resistant plastic and fit it with non-slip rubber feet, and state that it is made in Germany. It suits design and technology students, apprentices, architecture and engineering courses, and anyone sketching plans at a home desk.

Adding the Mars 660 20 drafting head turns the board into a protractor-based setup for angled work.

FAQs

Clamping strips along both sides of the board grip the sheet, so tape is not needed.
Yes. A single-hand double locking mechanism sets it at any position on the rail, and a colour indicator shows whether it is locked or unlocked.
The board itself gives parallel lines with the drafting arm. For angles, Staedtler make the Mars 660 20 drafting head with protractor scales for the 661 boards, sold separately.
Staedtler Australia do not publish the overall dimensions or weight of the 661 A3, so we cannot quote them. It takes A3 sheets.
Our title uses an older range name. Staedtler currently call it the Mars 661 drawing board; the article number 661 A3 is the same.
