Seventy Two Colours With A Broad And A Fine End

Staedtler 3200 TB72 is a hanging wallet of 72 double-ended fibre-tip pens, enough shades that most drawings need no blending at all.

Each pen has two tips. Staedtler put the broad end at approx. 3.0 mm and the fine end at approx. 0.5 to 0.8 mm, so one pen can fill a large area, then add edges, hair lines or handwriting in the same shade. The tips are described as stable and pressure-resistant.

At seventy two, the chip rows on the wallet show several close steps inside each colour family, from pale tints to deep shades, plus browns and a run of greys. It suits illustration students, fashion sketching, detailed adult colouring and anyone who has outgrown a 24 set.

Staedtler do not describe the 3200 as permanent; they list it for sketching, drawing, writing and colouring. For stones, glass or other surfaces, the 3187 double-ended permanent pens are the model to choose.
Same pen, twice the colours. The 72 adds more in-between shades within each colour family, which matters for shading without layering.
The Design Journey wallet shown first is the current Staedtler packaging. The Twin-tip pen wallet lower in the gallery is an older design for this article.
