0.3 mm HB Leads For Fine Mechanical Pencils

Staedtler Mars micro carbon 250 03-HB is one tube of 12 HB leads in the thinnest everyday width, 0.3 mm.

A 0.3 mm lead draws a hairline that stays the same width all the way down the page, which is why it suits small handwriting, dense notes, figures in margins and fine technical detail. HB is the middle grade: dark enough to read and photocopy, firm enough not to smear easily.

Staedtler describe the Mars micro carbon lead as stable and break resistant, with smooth gliding, jet black lines that are easy to erase. They list it for paper and drawing card and say it suits all mechanical pencils of the right width. The tube follows ISO colour coding, with 0.3 mm marked in yellow.

Thin leads only fit pencils made for them, so check the width printed on your pencil clip or barrel. The Mars micro 775 03 is a 0.3 mm pencil from the same family.

FAQs

One tube containing 12 HB leads, 0.3 mm wide.
No. They are too thin and will slip. Use them only in pencils marked 0.3 mm.
Staedtler describe them as stable and break resistant. At 0.3 mm, keep only a short length of lead extended for heavy writing.
That photo is Staedtler's earlier tube design. The current tube has the OPEN slider at the top, as in the first photo.
