Cadmium Yellow Light Hue 159, a Bright Transparent Liquitex Ink

Liquitex Acrylic Ink 159 Cadmium Yellow Light Hue is a 30 ml bottle of fluid acrylic colour, and Liquitex describes it as a bright single pigment yellow with high transparency.

The word Hue in the name matters. Liquitex explains that this colour is a recreation of the true inorganic cadmium pigment, and the pigment code it lists for colour 159 is PY138. On its colour page Liquitex rates the lightfastness Excellent and the opacity Transparent, so a layer of this yellow lets the paper or the colour beneath it show through instead of hiding it.

Liquitex calls Acrylic Ink its lowest viscosity colour and lists pen and ink, airbrushing, pouring and watercolour techniques among its uses. Liquitex also states that the ink dries quickly and stays put once dry, so a yellow glaze can be painted over later without the first layer bleeding into the next.

Mix it with the other colours in our Liquitex range, browse acrylic paints for heavier bodied colour, and choose a surface from art paper and canvas. Soft brushes for washes and glazes are listed under craft paint brushes.

FAQs

Liquitex describes Cadmium Yellow Light Hue as a recreation of the true inorganic cadmium pigment, and the pigment code Liquitex lists for colour 159 is PY138. The colour page carries no cadmium content statement from Liquitex, so we make none either.
Liquitex lists airbrushing among the techniques for its Acrylic Ink range and calls the formula ultra-fluid. Liquitex gives no nozzle size or thinning ratio on the colour page, so try a small amount in your own airbrush first.
Not well. Liquitex rates colour 159 Transparent, a category that Liquitex says offers the least coverage and lets light pass through to the surface below. Over a dark ground, expect the ground to show through.
Yes. Colart, which issues the Liquitex safety data sheets, names Cadmium Yellow Light Hue on its Acrylic Ink Colours P1 sheet. That sheet records the mixture as not classified under EU CLP rules and carries a note that it contains MBIT and BIT and may produce an allergic reaction. Ask us for a copy before planning classroom use.
