Naphthol Crimson 292, a Transparent Blue Red Liquitex Ink

Liquitex Acrylic Ink 292 Naphthol Crimson holds 30 ml of fluid acrylic colour, and Liquitex describes the shade as a mid blue-red made from a single transparent pigment.

According to Liquitex, naphthol is a modern organic synthetic pigment that was developed in the early 20th century, and the pigment code for colour 292 is PR170. Liquitex rates this crimson Very Good for lightfastness, the step below its Excellent rating, and Transparent for opacity. Keep that rating in mind for artwork that will hang in strong daylight.

Because Liquitex rates it Transparent, a thin layer of this crimson lets earlier colours read through it, which suits glazing and layered washes. Liquitex adds that Acrylic Ink dries quickly and does not move once dry, so a second pass of red can go over the first without bleeding.

See every colour on our Liquitex page, compare tube colour in acrylic paints, and find brushes, palettes and other painting supplies. Nibs, dip pens and sketching pens sit with our drawing supplies.
