Viscosity is the decision. Heavy body holds its shape and keeps the mark of the brush or knife; fluid and soft body level out and suit pouring, staining and fine detail. Acrylic dries fast and permanently, which is why a brush left standing is finished and why mediums exist to extend working time. Plan the palette accordingly.
