Willow Charcoal Sticks for Loose Sketching and Tone
Jasart Willow Charcoal, Jasco code 0383320, is a box of assorted black charcoal sticks, and the pack states it includes 10 sticks at 3 to 6mm in diameter. It suits life drawing, tonal studies and art room sketching.
Jasco lists the sticks at 135mm long and describes them as suited to smudging and blending with fingertips or a paper stump. The pack also prints 100% Oil Free. Mixed diameters in the box mean a thin stick can pick out edges while a thicker stick lays down broad areas of tone.
Charcoal moves quickly across cartridge paper and lifts back with a kneadable eraser, which makes it forgiving for students working out proportions. Sketchbook pages, gesture drawings and large tonal exercises all respond well, and a fixative spray is the usual way to set finished work before it is handled or stacked in a folio.
Pair the sticks with visual art diaries, keep erasers close for lifting highlights, find pencils, pads and stumps in drawing supplies, and see the full Jasart range for art room and studio work.
