They recommend PVC chair mats for light or occasional use and for home offices, and they call polycarbonate the most durable chair mat in their range, saying it will not curl, crack, discolour, dent, smell or buckle under normal use. So PVC for a home office or a desk used now and then, polycarbonate for a workstation in daily use.

This is a hard floor mat, so Floortex give it a smooth underside rather than grippers. It sits on the floor under the weight of the chair and the desk. Floortex do not publish an adhesive or anti-slip backing for it, so on a very smooth polished floor allow for a little movement.
