Derwent Watercolour Pencil Chinese White Box of 6

Yes. Derwent Watercolour Pencils work fully dry, giving precise, soft line work similar to a coloured pencil. Add water with a brush to dissolve the pigment and create smooth washes. The dry marks are also easy to blend with adjacent colours before wetting.

The key difference is permanence. Inktense pigment sets permanently once dry, making it suitable for layering over without lifting previous colour. Watercolour remains re-wettable indefinitely, so you can keep reworking and adjusting - a useful quality when building soft, subtle tones or correcting highlights.

Chinese White is a heavily used colour in watercolour work - it is commonly applied for highlights, tinting mixes, and softening edges. Buying a box of 6 ensures you always have a fresh, sharp pencil available without interrupting a session to sharpen a heavily worn one. It is a practical choice for frequent users and classroom settings.

A hexagonal barrel sits securely in the hand and does not roll off angled drawing boards or desks. It also provides a natural grip that helps reduce fatigue during extended drawing sessions, and the cedar wood construction means it sharpens cleanly without splitting.

Derwent Watercolour Pencils are described as highly pigmented with good light fastness. For critical archival or professional illustration work, it is worth checking the individual colour's light fastness rating on the Derwent specification sheet, as ratings can vary between colours in a range.
