Brown Earth for Timber, Bark and Warm Shadows
Jo Sonja's Brown Earth Matte Flow Acrylic in a 250ml bottle: a mid reddish brown for wood grain, bark and earthy backgrounds.
Brown Earth shows as a warm, medium brown with a red undertone in the swatch, a natural choice for fence posts, tree trunks and soil. The pink banded label reads Artists' Colours, then Brown Earth, Series 1 and ASTM 1, with pigment codes for Brown Earth given as PBr7. This 250ml Brown Earth suits trays, chairs and bigger panels.
One reliable mid brown covers basecoats, shading and grain lines, so a woodland or farmyard scene holds together without juggling several earths. It also handles the rustic look of farmhouse signs, birdhouses and painted crates without needing a separate stain.
Grain lines in Brown Earth come out best with a liner or a stiff fan from craft paint brushes. Timber blanks and boxes are part of art and craft supplies, and a varnish from painting mediums seals the finished piece.
