A small tub of gesso primer for one student or a trial lesson
Chroma Chromacryl Gesso 250ml arrives in a squat jar with a black screw lid and a label reading Gesso Primer.
Gesso goes on before the paint. On the larger jars in this range, the label calls it the ultimate primer for canvas, cardboard, illustration board and paper ahead of acrylic or oil painting, explaining that unprepared surfaces make paint dry too fast and look dull. The 250ml jar is the tidy option for one student kit or a teacher testing gesso on a few boards before buying in bulk.
A primed board holds colour more evenly, so students see the vividness of their paint rather than a dull, soaked-in patch. Because the jar is small and wide-mouthed, a brush reaches the bottom easily, and the black lid screws back down between sessions.
Once the gesso is dry, the board is ready for colour. Lay it onto classroom canvas boards, follow with colour from our acrylic paints range, and pick up suitable craft paint brushes for smooth, even coats.
