Phthalo Blue, an intense deep blue

Phthalo Blue is an intense, deep blue for stormy seas, night skies, deep water and strong cool shadows.

The tube label spells the name Pthalo Blue, marks it Transparent with an open circle, and lists Bleu de Pthalo, Helioblau and Azul Pthalo. Our swatch shows a navy-dark blue in the thick stroke that turns into a vivid, slightly green-leaning blue where scraped thin. Further down, the Phthalo tube carries Atelier A2 branding and "Heavy Body Acrylic" at 120mL.

Deep blues like this are often used in small amounts or thin layers, which makes the 120ml tube a practical size for most palettes. It fits easily in a studio drawer or travel case, and the cap keeps the paint sealed between uses.

Find lighter blues and greens in A2 acrylic paints, explore painting mediums, pick brushes from our brush collection, and choose art paper and canvas for Phthalo Blue seascapes.
